Newborn Session FAQ

A Newborn Session with Following Seas Photography

When should I book?

Most moms book their newborn sessions in the second trimester. I only accept a limited number of babies each month. However, don’t hesitate to contact me because I might be able to work you into my schedule!

How does scheduling work since I don’t know when my baby will be born?

When you book a session, you are holding a spot on my calendar. Once your baby is born, we will pick an exact date and time for your session. I do ask for your due date so I have a general idea of when your session will take place. It doesn’t matter if your baby comes early or is in for the long haul.

What is your style?

My goal is to create timeless images. There are trends that come and go. I want you to love your pictures now and twenty years from now. I’m sure you have some “what was my mom thinking” pictures from your childhood. I’d like to nottake those. 🙂  I shoot with a lot of whites and creams with your baby in natural poses. I like to include soft colors to personalize your images. I try to avoid crochet outfits and lots of props.

What is the difference between in-studio and in-home sessions?

In-studio sessions take place sooner, usually during the baby’s second week of life. The goal of these sessions are sleeping babies in natural poses.

In-home sessions are more relaxed and causal. It doesn’t matter if your little one is asleep or awake. I typically take pictures in the master bedroom, nursery and on the couch but also love to include unique nooks in your home. These are more “fly on the wall” pictures.

Where is your studio located?

My studio is located in Kailua.

How far do you travel for lifestyle sessions?

I will travel anywhere on the island.

What age do you like to do newborn sessions?

For in-studio sessions, I like to photograph newborns during the first two weeks of life.

For in-home sessions, I like to photograph newborns during the first three weeks of life.

Are there certain poses you don’t do?

Yes, there are. I like to keep my poses simple and natural. My goal is to provide you timeless portraits while keeping your baby safe. I will never sacrifice your baby’s safety for a picture.

What do I need to bring?

Baby and something to feed him/her. Literally, that’s it. I have a studio full of blankets, swaddles, props, etc. Once you book, I’ll send you a questionnaire so I have a better idea of what you envision for your session. When you arrive, we will finalize the items for your session.

What should parents and older siblings wear?

After you book, you’ll receive a Welcome Guide that covers tips for what to wear.

Are you vaccinated?

Yes! I am current with all vaccinations (including TDAPP) and I receive my flu shot every year.
